Acne is the result of pores clogged by greasy secretions from the skin's sebaceous glands. The true cause of acne remains undetermined but the severity of each case seems to be associated to heredity and hormone levels. In most cases, acne consists of blackheads and whiteheads, which are two forms of clogged and inflamed pores. In more intense cases, cysts can form under the surface, resulting in an increased level of discomfort. Almost everyone experiences acne at some point in their lives.
